SunRay Terminals

SunRay terminals are inexpensive thin clients that display a screen image generated on a remote Solaris Unix server. In a sense, SunRays could be though of as a hardware implementation of VNC. SunRays deliver full audio and video, which VNC does not do. They can be used with 3rd party keyboards, monitors and mice. They are diskless, fanless, and have a very small footprint on your desk. If you plan to use Unix frequently, the SunRay is the method of choice.

SunRays can be installed in labs or offices at the U. of M. However, installation requires that your Internet port be switched from the usual TCP port to a UDP port.

At the University of Manitoba, SunRays can be found in many open area computer labs.
